My Dust, My Ash

Burning insense

I dip my toes in last eve’s ashes
Kick the dust around me
Marvelous whirl, afloat
Tiny drifting carriages

It’s dark, dim. Where’s the light?
Throw back the shutters
Revel the jarring clatter
Seek night against the bright

I cup my hands, collect the effect
Fluid gold—it claws its way in
Treasure in my sea of shadows
enthusiasm resurrect

Beware—curious souls within

Let them come, let them see
Ancient dwindling revelation
Barefoot madness, inspired glee
Harmony in the dichotomy
