“What Moves You?” Blog Challenge | Moving Memories

There was a time,
a school trip in fifth grade,
somewhere deep in the woods
of the Ohio countryside

A time of freedom
unbridled expansion
permission to wander
my first taste of isolation

I found myself
in a room mid-construction
one wall missing, beckoning
the cool mist and breeze

And I’ll never forget the rain
a melodic pitter patter
as I gently bent into shapes
on a mat, plush and gray

Body and mind surrendered
I knew peace, I knew silence
and the relief one feels
upon finding a home

Written for the “What Moves You?” blog challenge.

Sending my thanks to Michele Lee of My Inspired Life for orchestrating this challenge! I spent some time on my mat today. As I shifted through the poses, I enjoyed remembering the first time I ever took a yoga class back in the fifth (?) grade on a school trip. The experience was surreal and peaceful. Ever since, yoga has been there for me on my worst days and my best, and I’m grateful for the mindful time I spend on and off my mat. (Even when I feel way too lazy and cold to want to do it, I always feel better afterward!)

I’m excited to read others’ creations for this challenge and hope you enjoy “getting your move on”! 🤸

Thank you for being here today!
Until next time,
Sam 🤍

This is gorgeous. Such good memories that you keep reliving by keeping at it for so long. The best kind of moving. I also practice yoga but nothing too over the top for me. It’s just so I don’t stiffen. I love it. Makes me feel good to be part of this. Thanks for sharing. Xoxo loved reading it. Xoxo
