An Icy Wonderland

Ice covering several small branches.

Recently I’ve chatted with a few of you around the world about having opposite seasons. Today provided me the perfect opportunity to share a little winter magic with those of you enduring the sweltering heat!

I woke up to an ice storm. We have around one or two ice storms a year, and despite threatening to steal our power and damage our trees, they’re incredible beautiful. Almost magical.

You can hear loud “cracks” when branches burst under the weight of the ice. And if you step outside, the slow melt of a million icicles sounds like a gentle summer rain.

It’s kind of awesome and terrifying all at once. I’m always anxious as the ice falls, and mesmerized when it passes.

So anyway, here are some photos I snapped this morning. I’m so happy to capture these pictures and carry them with me throughout the year. I know they’ll provide some inspiration for my manuscript, and hopefully can offer you a little something too!

Wishing you a very happy weekend ahead, no matter what season you’re in! ♡

PS: Have you ever seen an ice storm before?

Lovely, sparkling photos, Samantha. <3 When I lived in DC on the eighth floor, we had a wonderful view of icy treetops shining in the morning sun! Ice storms are treacherous, but beautiful!I have lived in Florida since 1995, so don't see too much ice here. 🙂

Ohh it would be incredible to view the ice from above! I bet that was breathtaking. ❄️ Florida certainly has her own charms too—I enjoyed your recent lighthouse photos from Biscayne National Park and miss the The Keys terribly!

My daughters are pretty good photographers. Are you from the Keys, Samantha? I have been there a few times, and it is a lovely area.

I’m from Ohio, now living in Michigan. But I’ve always felt drawn to the ocean and had an incredible trip a few years ago to the Miami area.
